Company Description

CraneWerks is seeking a professional and skilled Welder to join our team. We specialize in custom-designed material handling systems and lifting devices, and we need a talented welder to ensure our projects meet the highest standards of safety and quality. Experience with industrial cranes is preferred.

Role Description

As a Welder at CraneWerks, you will be responsible for fabricating, positioning, aligning, fitting, and welding parts to form complete units or subunits. You will follow blueprints and layout specifications, study engineering drawings, move parts into position, verify conformance of work pieces, and ensure proper assembly and maintenance of the shop and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of structural basics, including rigging, welding, erection, and reinforcements
  • Ability to read, understand, and layout to prints
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Welding certification(s) (Required)
  • Driver’s License (Required)

Physical Requirements

  • Good general health
  • Good balance, agility, vision, and depth perception

As one of our Welders, you will:

Assemble

  • Tack-weld fitted parts together
  • Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes
  • Follow blueprints and layout specifications using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools
  • Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to ensure that specifications are met

Fabricate

  • Fabricate, position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches
  • Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, accounting for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other specifications
  • Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures
  • Smooth work piece edges
  • Straighten warped or bent parts using sledges, hand torches, or straightening presses
  • Lift or move materials and finished products using large cranes
  • Preheat work pieces to make them malleable using hand torches
  • Erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together large assemblies

Align & Fit

  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers
  • Design and construct templates and fixtures using hand tools
  • Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone

Operate Machinery

  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses
  • Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal
