Roger Graham, a valued member of the CraneWerks family for 18 years, left a lasting impact with his generosity and dedication. In his honor, CraneWerks awards a $2,000 scholarship annually to a deserving high school senior from East Central Indiana who’s heading to trade school.

Guidelines to Apply for the Roger Graham Scholarship

To ensure your application is complete and meets all criteria, please review the following guidelines:

1. Eligibility

Applicants must be high school seniors in East Central Indiana.
Applicants must plan to attend a trade school after graduation.

2. Application Requirements

Personal Information: Provide accurate details, including your full name, contact information, and high school.
Academic Information: Include your GPA, class rank (if available), and any academic achievements.
Extracurricular Activities: Highlight your involvement in school clubs, community service, part-time work, or other activities.
Essay: Write a compelling essay addressing your aspirations, accomplishments, and why you’re the ideal recipient of the scholarship.
Recommendation Letters (Optional): Submit up to two letters from teachers, mentors, or community leaders. These letters should emphasize qualities like integrity, work ethic, leadership, and community involvement.

3. Submission Tips

Proofread: Carefully review your application for spelling, grammar, and clarity.
Submit Early: Complete and submit your application well before the deadline to avoid last-minute issues.

4. Deadline

Roger Graham

1953-2019

Some people just do more with the time they’re given on the planet. Roger Graham was one of those people. Roger had numerous passions and interests – he also had the talent and energy to explore them to the fullest. He had one of the biggest hearts around and a warm, welcoming smile. Sometimes you’d need to get past a gruff exterior to see that smile, but eventually everybody got past it.

Besides being a Vice President at CraneWerks, he also was a(n):

Sunday School teacher to special needs children
Santa Claus for years and years at the annual CraneWerks family Christmas party
Great cook who, together with wife Juanita, cooked dinner for veterans every Tuesday night at the Franklin Elks Lodge
Deacon at his church who led an annual mission trip to help the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota
Avid fisherman
An even-more-avid beekeeper – so avid, in fact, that he started his own beekeeper supply business in 1992, Graham’s Bee Works, Inc. He ran this business with Juanita for the rest of his life.

CraneWerks’ owner Mark Thomas, is one of the lucky people to call Roger a personal friend. Mark remembers him as, “a friendly guy with a broad range of experiences and expertise who was willing to share them with everyone.”

In the late 1990s, CraneWerks noticed that the American crane industry was in trouble. Big overseas companies were making huge inroads into the US market by setting up their own sales networks. Their seemingly unlimited resources and capabilities made it increasingly difficult for independent US dealers to stay competitive.
