Walker Career Center Students Get a Hands-On Look at CraneWerks

January 31, 2025

This month, CraneWerks had the privilege of welcoming students from the Walker Career Center for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the world of overhead cranes and material handling. These bright, motivated students—studying Engineering, Construction, Precision Machine, and Welding—got an up-close view of how their technical training translates into real-world applications.

The Importance of Real World Experience

Walker Career Center is known for providing students with industry-relevant, hands-on education that prepares them for high-demand careers. Dr. Steve E. Rogers, the school’s director, emphasizes the importance of equipping students with the skills necessary to compete in the global economy. With programs spanning Business and Information Technology, Engineering and Technology Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Fine Arts, and specialized Career and Technical Education, Walker Career Center ensures that students graduate ready to jump into the workforce or continue their education with college credits already in hand.

Walker Career Center’s Visit to CraneWerks

During their visit to CraneWerks, the Walker Career Center students had the chance to see our shop in action—troubleshooting hoists, designing custom solutions, and fabricating overhead lifting systems that power industries across America. They engaged with our team, asked insightful questions, and saw firsthand how technical skills in welding, machining, and engineering are applied in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Investing in the Future Workforce

At CraneWerks, we believe in investing in the future workforce. That’s why we proudly offer the Roger Graham Scholarship, awarded each spring to high school seniors pursuing further education in trade school programs. Programs like those at Walker Career Center create a pipeline of skilled workers who are ready to step into rewarding, hands-on careers in industries that need them the most.

We encourage students from technical programs like Walker Career Center to apply for the Roger Graham Scholarship and take advantage of the many opportunities available in the skilled trades. As industries continue to evolve, the demand for technically trained professionals will only grow—and we’re proud to support the next generation of tradespeople who will keep America running.
